Philine presents at the Spring Academy

Philine presented the second chapter, “Oysters Three Ways,” of her dissertation at the 2026 Heidelberg Center for American Studies Spring Academy. The five-day workshop brought together bourgeoning scholars from across the globe to discuss what American studies means today and to give each other feedback on their works in progress. From environmental extraction to racialized comics and from evangelical conversion strategies to Black experimental poetry, the workshop showcased the broad appeal of American studies as an interdisciplinary field. The connections Philine made have lasted beyond the week itself. The HCA made everyone feel welcome and cared for, and hosted a lovely final dinner with which to end the week.
